AN ORIGINAL COPY IN AMAZINGLY WELL-PRESERVED CONDITION

Chicago Daily Tribune
November 3, 1948

We are truly proud to present arguably the most famous error headline in American history, “DEWEY DEFEATS TRUMAN.” The Tribune, certain that Republican New York Governor Thomas Dewey had won enough electoral votes to take the 1948 election from President Harry Truman, prepared its front page headlines and story prematurely. However, when the true results began to filter in, the Tribune attempted to remove its faulty edition from the streets. However, a small number of issues were purchased and have now become very desirable collectors items. (In 1948 LIFE Magazine published a famous news photo shows President Truman holding up a copy of this paper to reporters.)

The complete newspaper in outstanding condition–the finest we have ever offered. It’s an absolute must for any Presidential or political collection.
