DEATH OF ADOLPH HITLER!
NAZI DICTATOR DIES IN BERLIN UNDER ATTACK
The State
Columbia, SC
May 2, 1945
Huge banner headline screams: “HITLER REPORTED DEAD.” Following headlines read: “Hamburg Radio Says Fuehrer Fell in Battle. Grand Admiral Doenitz, Ruthless Submarine Killer, Takes Place Saying Struggle Will Continue.” (Doenitz meant fighting against Russia). There are three front page bust photos of Hitler, Heinrich Himmler, the dreaded Gestapo Chief, and Admiral Doenitz. The reports say that Russia believes the news to be a “Fascist trick!” Hitler apparently committed suicide in his underground bunker.
The State’s editorial on Hitler’s death opined: “If he is dead the world is rid of the man who has caused more needless deaths than any other person who ever lived–a man who shall go down in history as the greatest menace to civilization and the most contemptible oppressor of people yet produced on this earth. May our victory this tie be so convincing that no such person can ever rise to follow in his footsteps.”
This graphic and historic issue is in very fine condition. Apparently two inside page comic strips were removed decades ago. A perfect paper to display.
