ARCHDUKE FRANZ-FERDINAND AND WIFE ASSASSINATED IN SARAJEVO
Heir to the Austrian Throne Brutally Slain/World War I Now Only Days Away!
St. Louis Globe-Democrat
June 29, 1914
This historic newspaper publishes large and shocking front page headlines and a full report on the heinous event which precipitated the start of World War I only five more days away. “ASSASSIN KILLS HEIR TO AUSTRIAN THRONE AND WIFE IN STREET OF BOSNIAN CAPITAL.” Secondary headlines scream: “ROYAL COUPLE SHOT AFTER THEY ESCAPE DEATH FROM BOMB. Eight Persons are Wounded as Archduke Wards Off Deadly Missile with Arm.” The front page also contains remarkable photos of the ill-fated heir and his family.
Here is the complete 28-page issue still in fine condition with only the usual browning. Newspapers of this vintage are seldom scene so well-preserved. I would read it first, and then have it framed–it’s that graphic!
